Left

I decided the job wasn't for me, so I've left. There won't be any more updates on this blog, unless one day I do courier work again.

  1. Hey mate tuff luck there. What was it that make you think it wasn't for you? Did you have any particular bad experiences? Or just the overall experience?

    1. Jeez I just saw this comment.
It wasn't the overall experience that was bad, but specific parts of it. At least it's easier to list what was bad than what was good.

      Bad bits were:
Rubbishy pay (but hey at least it was something and it got me out of the house).

Kept getting lost. This was the worse bit, the biggest time loser for me was not being able to figure out how to get to the place, mixing up St Kilda Road in Melbourne City for St Kilda Road in St Kilda after riding back and forth trying to find a particular building number umpteen times and finally asking for help over the radio, pulling up to a place and having to walk extra after realizing halfway to the final destination that I could've parked a lot closer, trying to get to a certain number on a side street via another street only to discover that the street is one way and I can't get to that particular building number on that side street via fucken Collins Street, I have to go to Exhibition Street, and the other thing was getting to a destination and taking a long time to figure out where their deliveries receiving bay was, which would often include walking up to reception and asking.

Kept making my parcel carrying tub messy, never figured out a system of handling items quickly, and never did get it to sit centre.

Sucked at figuring out routes, couldn't do it quickly enough.

Was in the rich fuel range of throttling opening most of the time causing poor fuel economy (carby needs tuning).

Kept not being able to peel off early enough to get to my TAFE course on time (which btw I passed with flying colours).

Shouldn't've been riding the bike anyway because I had no front brake pad friction material left.

Lost an expensive radio which forfeited what money I did earn (about $350, would've been nice pocket money).

If the above don't apply to you/aren't a concern for you, then give it a try, and once you get very good the pay is fairly reasonable for what is essentially/technically unskilled labour.

Plus you get to ride your bike around all day.

It would be the ideal gap year job for a school leaver living with their parents who can't think of anything they'd like to do but don't want to pursue higher education just yet, they would be very likely to observe something that would make them decide their direction in life, they may even decide they want to be a courier, you can clear 1500 bucks (turnover) in one week if you are good, and if you spend your days riding your motorcycle around for a living, investing wisely, playing the stock market game a bit, you'd be able to secure comfortable retirement at the end of a pretty damn good lifestyle, plenty of life experiences and an extensive knowledge of your city to boot.
